Jessica Joy Harned

Violinist, Podcaster, and Producer

Jessica Joy Harned is a trailblazing artist who is dedicated to fostering safe, inclusive, and enlightened environments through her remarkable work. Her transformative journey commenced with the creation of the thoughtful podcast "Classical Queens," a platform that delves into the lives and music of women of color in classical music. Encouraged by the overwhelming response, Jessica expanded her endeavors to establish connective spaces, curating the Classical Queens lecture series. As a guest artist lecturer at the College of Western Idaho, Sun Valley Summer Symphony Youth Program, and Boise State, she cultivated a sense of connection and shared knowledge. Driven by the desire to amplify connectivity and education about marginalized individuals in classical music, Jessica collaborated with the Serenata Orchestra for a captivating show, spearheaded by the visionary Jen Drake, titled "A Search for Joy." In this enchanting performance, Jessica seamlessly intertwined personal narrative, with orchestral music, and intentions of luminaries such as Florence Price, William Grant Still, and Dolores White. These exceptional endeavors were made possible through the generous support of the Alexa Rose Foundation, in 2019 and 2022. She is currently funded by WESTAF BIPOC Artist Fund, Idaho Arts Commison, and Boise Arts and History.

While relishing her role in fostering conversations about representation in classical music, whether through the media, classrooms, or her own artistic endeavors, Jessica also takes immense joy in nurturing an environment that promotes growth and empowerment. She has recently been happy to accept an offer with The Black Legacy Project, for a national tour Fall 2023 - Fall 2024, and is happy to be connected with other groups in Idaho and beyond who are inspired by similar work. Jessica is also a memeber of the Boise Phil, Mariachi Sol de Acapulco, WEND and Jün.
